Dietetics and Nutrition

The Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) Dietitians provide specialised clinical dietetic advice for a number of patients in the hospital, including in the areas of:

  • nephrology
  • intensive care
  • general surgery and surgical specialities
  • general medicine, geriatrics and diabetes
  • medical oncology
  • gastroenterology
  • immunology
  • inborn errors of metabolism
  • stroke and neurology
  • neurosurgery / trauma
  • haematology
  • cardiology.

The types of patients Dietitians predominantly deal with require one or more of the following:

  • special diet modifications
  • specialised oral nutrition supplements
  • nutrition education
  • enteral nutrition (tube feeding)
  • total parenteral nutrition.

Although predominantly inpatient focused, the Dietetics and Nutrition Department also provides some Outpatient Services – primarily to those RPH patients with complex medical problems.

The aim of dietetic services is to promote positive health outcomes through optimal nutrition.
